Şehzade Mosque

Commissioned by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in memory of his son Şehzade Mehmed, this 16th-century mosque is one of Mimar Sinan’s earliest and most elegant works. Known as the “Prince’s Mosque,” it reflects early examples of Ottoman classical architecture.

Valens Aqueduct (Bozdoğan Kemeri)

Built in the 4th century AD by Emperor Valens, this Roman aqueduct once carried water to ancient Constantinople. Preserved by both Byzantine and Ottoman rulers, it still stands proudly as one of the city’s enduring symbols.

Zeyrek Mosque (Monastery of Christ Pantokrator)

Originally constructed as a Byzantine monastery complex, Zeyrek Mosque blends Christian and Islamic architectural styles. It remains one of Istanbul’s oldest surviving religious buildings and a unique example of layered history.

Fatih Mosque

Named after Fatih Sultan Mehmed (Mehmed the Conqueror), this monumental mosque represents the power and vision of the Ottoman Empire following the conquest of Constantinople. It’s an architectural landmark and an important center of worship.

Kariye Mosque (Chora Mosque)

Famous for its stunning Byzantine mosaics and frescoes, the Kariye Mosque was originally a 5th-century church later converted into a mosque. Tucked away in the old city walls, it’s one of Istanbul’s most beautiful and spiritually moving sites.

Tekfur Palace

Also known as the Palace of the Porphyrogenitus, Tekfur Palace is a rare surviving example of Byzantine imperial architecture. Once part of the Blachernae Palace complex, it now houses exhibitions highlighting Istanbul’s Byzantine heritage.
